The challenge

For Veteran’s Day, Aetna wanted to communicate that it understands Veterans' unique needs, including the needs of their families, without making a generic corporate claim.

The big idea

What if we could bring Veterans’ past and present together in the same frame? Using our new virtual production studio, we created an immersive experience that brought Aetna’s Veteran employees face-to-face with their past, creating a powerful visual expression of the experiences that continue to shape who they are today.

Bringing it to life

I conducted pre-interviews with each Veteran to uncover their stories, memories, and perspectives on caring for Veterans through Aetna. I used those conversations to write the film’s anthemic script, weaving their shared experiences into one collective statement. Our production team then sourced photographs from their time in the service and used them to build immersive virtual environments for the shoot. Each Veteran delivered the script line by line, surrounded by their own history on the virtual production wall. We also captured longer-form interviews with each participant, creating a library of authentic footage for additional content and future storytelling.

The video

The finished film captured genuine reactions as the Veterans stepped onto set and found themselves surrounded by their past. That emotional experience put each participant in the right headspace to deliver the script with the authenticity and conviction the story demanded.
